To be the union of choice for public sector employees in Botswana
To protect and promote the economic, political and social interests of members and thereby enhance the quality of life of public sector employees
BOPEU is attributed to values that not only spell out its name but are also tenets that shape the union’s purpose:
- Outcome driven
- Universal solidarity
HISTORY OF BOPEU
Botswana Public Employees Union (BOPEU) is a trade union duly registered in terms of the Trade Unions and Employers’ Organization Act and fully recognized by the employer as a bargaining agent for its members.
BOPEU was founded in 2007 through a unionization transformation of the then Botswana Civil Servants Association (BCSA). BCSA evolved from the merge of the Bechuanaland Protectorate Junior Civil Service Association and the Bechuanaland Protectorate Senior European Service Association in 1960. The history of these two associations dated back to 1942.
BOPEU recruits and organizes members from the Government as well as from organizations where both BOPEU and the Government have financial interest such as Botswana Unified Revenue Services (BURS), Botswana bureau of standards (bobs), Local Enterprise Authority (LEA), Civil Aviation Authority of Botswana (CAAB), Botswana Examinations Council (BEC), Statistics Botswana, Botswana Investment and Trade Centre (BITC) and Water Utilities Corporation (WUC)…e.t.c
